"Without the help of Angie, Karin, Nico, and friends and family... finding and capturing Sammy would had been impossible. I am so thankful for The LPP help, in person, on the phone, and even after Sammy was back home. Without them, Sammy would most likely still be lost, if not dead by now. I am so thankful to them."
From Sammy’s family:
Our long and complicated story... finding and catching our sweet Sammy.
Losing Sammy...
Sammy is a small black chiweenie. He was with family while my wife and I went on vacation. We left early Saturday morning on June 24th. Five hours later, we received a phone call stating that Sammy had ran out the door and was nowhere to be found. As you can imagine, our world immediately turned upside down. Being 500 miles away and trying to help family and friends find your missing pup is extremely difficult.
Calling in the pros...
We decided to come home early to help find Sammy. We put in hours of searching, calling, crying even, with no sign of Sammy anywhere. On Wednesday, we called The Lost Pet Professionals. They helped us with making 50 more lost dog signs with better pictures of Sammy and made sure we knew where to place these signs for the most exposure. After we placed the signs, we waited and waited and waited. A few sightings, about 9 miles away, were called in, but we did not have any luck in finding the dog that was described in the area.
Angie, Karin and their K9 Teams come to help...
We decided to call Brenda back, and tell her we wanted the help on the search dog team. We were contacted by Angie, and she explained what we needed to do, and what would happen when she arrived. Monday, July 3rd, Angie and Karin showed up with their search dogs. Since we had no sightings, they had to start with his scent and where he ran out of the house. This is where the story turns tricky. We tried all the scent articles, and there was no scent trail coming from the house. Karin thought there was a problem with the scent articles but she was unsure what.
After four hours of checking sightings, I was contacted by a woman saying that Sammy was spotted on the interstate in the morning. We decided to take another break and let the dogs finally rest. The witness who had seen Sammy earlier arrived and took us to the exact spot on the interstate.
K9 Nico finds Sammy...
Angie retrieved Nico from her truck and he was given Sammy's scent. Nico immediately went running. He led Angie right to Sammy! My sweet baby was right there! Angie asked me to come near her, but when the car I was in stopped, the brakes squealed, startling Sammy and he went running into the shrubbery along the fence line. I sat near the shrubbery and just talked to Sammy. I talked for about 30 minutes, with nothing happening. We decided to go to the other side of the fence and try to talk him out. During that time, Karin and Angie found Sammy’s collar. My heart was leaping out of my chest, we were so close!
Another sighting came in from some girls Karin had talked to earlier about Sammy. They saw Sammy in some woods down the road. We quickly moved to the woods, and sat there talking to Sammy from about 3 more hours, until it was dark. We set live traps trying to capture this little baby. We packed up our things, and headed back home without Sammy. Heartbreak was setting in again, until the next morning when there was another sighting.
Capturing Sammy...
We started working to capture Sammy with Angie and Hip Donelson a local lost pet team. This continued for 4 more days, sightings in the mornings and evenings, setting traps and resetting traps. Finally, Friday night at 9:30pm, we went to check a trap that was set about an hour before, and Sammy was caught! We finally had our baby, 13 days after his disappearance. The world was lifted from our shoulders.
Thank you to all...
